Cheer Sign Materials, Explained: From 4mm Coroplast to Bubble X

Not all cheer signs are created equal, and the material you choose makes a real difference in how long your signs survive a season of pounding in the stands. Here's a plain-language rundown of the options, from good to best.

4mm Coroplast (Good). This was the go-to standard for cheer signs for more than 30 years, the same corrugated plastic used for most yard signs. It can be printed and cut into any shape up to 48"x96", and it's inexpensive, which makes it a great choice for younger groups or short-term signs you don't need to last for years. The trade-off is durability: 4mm Coro creases and wears faster than the heavier options.

3mm PVC (Good). A very thin, very flexible material that prints in vibrant color. Like 4mm Coro, it works up to 48"x96" and is a solid pick for younger squads. It's flexible to a fault, though. It lacks the rigidity of most other materials, so it's not ideal for large signs.

6mm Coroplast (Better). A meaningful step up in durability from 4mm Coro. If your team liked the classic coroplast feel but kept bending signs, the 6mm is the upgrade.

4mm Bubble X (Best). This is the latest and greatest cheer sign material on the market. Bubble X is made with circular flutes that let it flex enough to survive the pounding cheer signs take without creasing, yet stay rigid enough to hold up even at the largest sizes. If your team is creasing a Bubble X sign, they practically have to be trying.
